Young Black Woman Entrepreneur Empowers Others Through Financial Literacy

Dominique Broadway

Dominique Broadway is not even 30-years old yet, but she has some very good advice for entrepreneurs when it comes to managing their money. In fact, she owns her own business called "Finances Demystified" that provides financial planning and coaching for other small business owners.

In a recent interview with Dominique by EBONY.com, the young black entrepreneur offers suggestions, based on her own personal experience, on how others can increase their financial literacy. Here are some of her top recommendations.

Learn to be financially savvy

Dominique's grandfather taught her about stocks and bonds, and she continued her education in finances in college. She stresses the importance of understanding finances by explaining, "I majored in banking and finance because I want to help everyone understand how their money can work for them and provide them with financial guidance."

Don't be afraid to talk about money

Dominique recommends making the topic of money a common discussion and learn to speak about it freely. As she explains her approach, "Basically the point is to get some of those financial terms out in the open to remove the stigma that surrounds money."

Does Dominique know what she's talking about? You bet. She bought her first house when she was only 22. And because of her hard work and open approach to money and finances, she was able to increase the growth of her business by being awarded a $5,000 grant in 2013 from a program called ELEVATE sponsored by Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott.

This young entrepreneur has been able to lead by example and also reach out to help other entrepreneurs by changing the way we think and talk about money.
